Frequently Asked Questions
 | Crop circles have been appearing in the fields of England since the middle
'70s. The phenomenon has shown, especially since 1990, an astonishing
development of form, size and complexity. Despite continuing research, there
is no convincing "explanation". |
 | The circles now appear in over 20 countries, but the heartland of the
phenomenon, in terms of sheer scale and sophistication of design, is still
the West of England. |
 | The crop is never cut or damaged in any way. The plants, which are swirled
down in elaborate flow-patterns, continue to ripen. The individual stalks of
the plant are bent, not kinked or broken. The crop circles remain until the
farmer harvests the field. |
 | In 1990 and 1991 there were nearly 1000 individual formations in England
alone. This has reduced to about 150 to 200 per year. It is estimated that —
worldwide — there have been about 8000 formations. |
 | The farmers' attitudes vary. There are still those who believe the circles
to be acts of vandalism; these farmers have rarely entered a circle. There
are others who welcome the circles and regard them as a gift. We noticed a
significant change in many of the farmer's attitudes during the 1996 season. |
 | Our studies have shown that the design and layout is often based on
ancient sacred geometries and embodies a comprehensive knowledge of
proportion and ratio as well as a detailed understanding of landscape and
topography. |
 | Scientists generally have avoided any association with the crop circles
for fear of ridicule. Dr Levengood of Michigan however, a plant biologist,
has conducted sampling and laboratory testing for some years and has shown
consistent evidence of the effects of microwave. Professor Gerald Hawkins
working in the early 1990's found significant correlations between the
dimensions and ratios employed in the glyphs and the diatonic musical scale
and its relationship to Euclidian Geometry. |
